Spider Webs – Rehearsed Reading Auditions

We are looking for actors for a rehearsed reading of Spider Webs, a play written and directed by Vello Ruus. The cast consists of 3 male and 3 female roles.

WHEN
The first reading that also serves as an audition takes place Friday 5 September at 18:00. Also people who do not wish to audition can come and participate in the first reading. Just remember to tell the director that you are not auditioning before the reading starts.

The performance will take place Saturday 25 October.

Between these dates, there will be rehearsals, the schedule of which will be decided once the cast has been selected.

ABOUT THE PLAY
Spider Webs is a comedy revolving around the central character of Dr Limprandy, a wheelchair-bound psychiatrist, and his interaction with three patients. The three patients - Sister Absinth, Bunny and Lulu - each have unique issues to deal with, which Dr Limprandy attempts to help resolve. Sister Absinth questions her faith and seeks advice on her religious dedication. Bunny is a young man dealing with his inability to express his emotions. Lulu is a transvestite confused about his sexuality. The two remaining characters are Pink, Dr Limprandy's cat, who teaches him about life and love through philosophy, and Nora Bloom, Dr Limprandy's girlfriend, who comes and goes throughout the play, reciting poetry relevant to the scene. The stories of the three patients develop over the course of the play, which concludes in a musical finale with everyone coming together in song and poetry.

ABOUT THE PLAY
"Spider Webs" is a comedy featuring Dr Limprandy, a wheelchair-bound psychiatrist, who is sexually attracted to his cat; Pink, Dr. Limp's pet cat and mentor; Sister Absinth, a nun who seeks Dr. Limp's advice on some very sensitive matters; Bunny and Lulu, two young men who really need Dr. Limp's help but are reluctant to admit it; and Nora Bloom, Dr. Limp's girlfriend, who is obsessed with reciting poetry at sometimes awkward moments. In addition to superb acting, you will be treated to some delightful singing and guitar music during the second half of the play. All this for less than half the price of a movie ticket.

Welcome to our first rehearsed reading of the year: 'Helpless' by Vello Ruus on Friday 28 February at 7 pm.

Should we help others? Why? And when is intervention a bad idea?

Michael returns home after a year abroad to find Katy living in his house with her newborn baby. Due to Katy's depression, she is unable to cope with her life and, once again, Michael finds himself having to help.

To his relief, his daughter Ricki shows up with a surprise of her own: she is engaged to an Italian named Michele. Soon after, Michael's son David arrives with his girlfriend Sandy, whose sexual energy explodes the hidden conflicts in the family leaving a new beginning for some and a dead-end for others.

We are looking for actors for our next staged reading: Helpless by Vello Ruus. There are 3 female and 3 male roles.

The auditions will be held on Sunday 26 January at 17:30 in the form of a play reading – so remember, you can always take part in the initial reading even if you don't wish to be cast in the production.

The performance will be on 28 February at 19:00 at the Finnish-British Society. Rehearsals dates will be set after the play is cast.

Dylan Thomas (1914–1953) wrote Under Milk Wood as a radio play for voices.
Don't miss The Finn-Brit Players' rehearsed reading of this well known, beautifully written and much loved account of a day in the life of Llaregyb, on the Welsh coast!

You will meet, among many other characters, Captain Cat and Rosie Probert, Dai Bread and his two wives, Organ Morgan, the Pughs and twice-widowed Mrs Ogmore-Pritchard, Willy Nilly Postman, Butcher Beynon and Polly Garter, who is no better than she should be, not to mention the Reverend Eli Jenkins.

The reading is directed by Joan Nordlund.
